Day's Jewelers presents the Everlon Diamond Knot Collection The Everlon Diamond Knot Collection symbolizes the impenetrable strength of love which joins two individuals. The knot is formed by an endless loop, secured at its heart by the strength of a diamond. Like love itself, the diamond will never yield. Its bond is invincible. Love inspires and secures us. This concept is based on the Hercules knot which is the strongest of all knots and an ancient symbol of strength. The design is simple, timeless and elegant. Some wrap strands in foil and brush dye over them, others are putting the finishing touches on a client's new 'do, brushing hair and blow drying it. Attitudes is a world of colors, creams, sprays, shampoos, and serums, mixed with the flair of a stylist who is also part therapist and confidant... Read the whole story.

Upcoming Shows at the Waterville Opera House
Cabaret
Music and Lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb Directed by Debra Susi Musical Direction by Jonathan Mastro Oct. 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7:30 PM Oct. 18 and 25 at 2:00 PM
$18.00 Adults; $16.00 Students and Seniors As the 1920's are drawing to a close, we are brought into the night club scene in Berlin, Germany, by the Master of Ceremonies who assures us that whatever our troubles, they will be forgotten at the "Cabaret." The tumultuous and heartbreaking era leading up to Adolph Hitler and the Third Reich is told by song and wry commentary throughout the show. Willkommen, Cabaret, Don't Tell Mama and Two Ladies are among the musical offerings that move the history forward. Dancing, singing and the back story of Sally Bowles and Cliff's "romance" all portray this time period with its debauchery, excess and "live for the moment" behavior.
The Ruckus At Machias Written and Directed by Richard Sewell
Oct. 2, 3 at 7:30 PM; Oct. 4 at 2:00 PM
$12.00 Adults; $10.00 Youth and Seniors Presented in the Studio Theater, 93 Main Street, 1st Floor The Ruckus at Machias, the story of the first naval clash between American colonists and their mother country, is also a real life heart-warmer about a woods-bound young wife, her wedding spoons, and a red dress in a world of brown and green. History (and drama) is always a bringing together of vast matters and trivia. The Ruckus at Machias shows us life in a small settlement on the edge of its world. We watch the community caught up in a stubborn conflict, half-comic yet potentially tragic; they face it with guts and dry humor. Shrewd sense collides with cussedness as they are tugged into a fight with the British navy. They seem wildly outmatched, but, in the end, prove equal to the challenge. The part of Hannah Weston is being played by a direct descendent, who, coincidentally, is also named Hannah Weston! Bring the family to this heartwarming tale and experience Maine history at its best. Director Richard Sewell originally wrote The Ruckus at Machias in the late 1960s for students of the former Coburn Classical Institute in Waterville. Expanded and rewritten, the play won first prize in the 2003 National New Playwright Contest at the Fremont Centre Theater in Pasadena, CA. Mr. Sewell taught theater at Colby for over 20 years and is a founding director of the Theater at Monmouth.
For more information on these or any upcoming shows, call 873-7000, Monday-Friday 10AM to 4PM. Tickets can be ordered in person, by phone or on the web at www.operahouse.org.

Spotlight on History: C. W. HUSSEY BUILDING 185 Main Street
The C. W. Hussey block is considered to be one of the most architecturally outstanding buildings on Main Street. William Butterfield designed this Romanesque architectural style building in 1908. It is characterized by pronounced curved arches on the ground floor, a horizontal band separating the floors and Roman-style bricks. Roman style bricks were longer, narrower and flatter (4"x4"x12") than standard bricks. Frank Lloyd Wright also favored Roman style bricks for his prairie houses. Roman bricks are rarely manufactured today.
Hussey was a flamboyant lawyer who erected this prominent monument to himself. The outward appearance of this historical landmark has remained relatively unchanged for almost 100 years. This property is currently listed for sale by Century 21 Surette.
