The
Waterville Opera House Presents JACK: a Staged Reading of the
Original Opera of JFK's Rise in Politics
ONE NIGHT ONLY
September 15, 2008
Curtain at 7:30 p.m.
Maine
native and Broadway and folk composer Will Holt, and Hollywood
screenwriter Tom Sawyer will present their original opera JACK
for one night only Monday, September 15, 2008 at the Waterville Opera
House.
Members
of the original New York cast and other professional Broadway singers
and actors will work beside local Maine talent to perform a staged
reading of Holt and Sawyer's score of JACK.
JACK tells the story of
the Kennedy family's rise to power and John F. Kennedy's journey to
become the first Catholic President of the United States. Through
powerful musical na rrative and song, Kennedy family secrets emerge. The
Kennedy patriarch's struggle for social and political power, his deep
and life-long mourning for the death of his son Joe --- the first
choice for political position--- leads to JFK's rise in politics
against all odds. JACK is about family strength, love
and loss, forgiveness, and how the journey of one man's visionary
leadership and hope for America inspired a nation and politics
forever.
Originally
produced as a "backers" run at the renowned Goodspeed Opera
House in Connecticut, JACK successfully garnered the
financial backing of Broadway producers, but closed before its time
after playing in Dublin, Ireland and Oklahoma during the tragic
bombings.
Recently,
members of the original New York cast reunited in New York City to
record a cast album. It was during the recording project that the
creators and cast members were reminded of the promise JACK
holds not only as a remarkable musical work, but also of its power to
inspire hope for America.
Two
months before the 2008 presidential elections, JACK is
being performed as a staged reading (without full production elements
such as sets, costumes, and full orchestra) to offer Maine
theater-lovers and political activists --- a chance to come together
to celebrate and consider visionary leadership once again for a
"New America" in 2008.
This
performance will also support the Waterville Opera House's campaign
to restore this important historic theater. For tickets and
information about attending the reception with local, state and other
dignitaries and members of the cast, please call: 207-873-7000 or go
to: www.watervilleoperahouse.org.

Blue Wave
Dancing September Dance Classes
Well,
Labor Day has come and gone and that means.... you guessed it --
Sunday night classes are back!
SUNDAY NIGHTS AT THE CENTER
Starting Sunday, September 7
6:30 to 7:30 - Beginner 1 Swing. Swing is
probably the most useful of all the dances. Be ready next time
they play one! No experience necessary, just a desire to have
fun!
7:30 to 8:30 - Quickstep. Quickstep is kind of a
fast and furious Foxtrot. This is a beginner level class, but
in order to take it you need to have taken Beginner 1 & 2 Foxtrot
or have already had some introduction to Quickstep. Because
it's fast and takes up a lot of room, we're going to limit the size
of the class, just to keep people from killing each other!
We're asking people to pre-register for the classes at The Center.
Call Eva at 465-2088.
Classes are still $25/person for the four week session.
CLASSES AT BLUE WAVE STUDIO
Starting Tuesday, September 9
6:15 to 7:15 - Beginner 1 Waltz. Remember how you
felt this summer when you went to that fancy wedding and the band
played a Waltz and all you could do was the Mashed Potato?
Don't let it happen again! No experience necessary, just a
desire to look like Fred or Ginger!
7:30 to 8:30 - Beginner 2 Foxtrot. This is for
those who have taken Beginner 1 Foxtrot or have otherwise learned the
basics of Foxtrot. We'll polish up what you have and add a few
new figures.
Classes are still $25/person for the four week session.
MELODY RANCH
Every Wednesday night
Weekly Ballroom Dance lesson followed by a 2-hr. Ballroom Dance at
The Melody Ranch, corner of Rts. 139 & 104 in Fairfield Center.

For a printable copy of the schedule, go to the calendar page of our
website: www.bluewavedancing.com
The turnout on Wednesday nights has been great! The lesson is a
different dance each week. Finally, a chance to get out and
strut your stuff!
