Art Classes for Youth & Teens

Abstract Painting with Sandy Stewart
Students will begin by drawing from actual objects and/or pictures, strengthening their seeing skills by recognizing and working with the lines and shapes which make up a composition. Students will then find and abstract from the whole certain parts of their pictures which interest them, enlarging and arranging them in a different order on a new and larger paper. Finally, they will concentrate on painting the resulting shapes with color, using shading to create form and depth, resulting in a whole new composition and a whole new way of seeing!
$40, Ages 9 and up, Mondays, September 17 & 24, 3:30-5:30pm

Working with Mosaics with Kim Brennan
Bring in something to recycle, like an old picture frame, wooden box, coffee can, funky bottle, etc. With broken pieces of pottery (provided), we will make the old become new again by gluing the pieces onto our objects.
$25, Ages 9-15, Tuesday, September 18, 3:30-5:30pm

Paper Mache Monsters with Heidi Pomerleau
Do you love to create monsters – silly, funny, weird characters? You will be working from sketches to create a sculpture using paper mache and added materials. Then, add character by painting your monster and adding fun materials like fur, yarn, beads and more.
$40, Ages 6 and up, Wednesdays, September 19 & 26, 3:30-5:30pm

Marionette Super Heroes with Heidi Pomerleau
Everyone loves a Super Hero! Turn your super hero sketch into a marionette using a variety of materials, including clay, cloth, and wood.

$40, Ages 9-15, Tuesdays, September 18 & 25, 3:30-5:30pm

Life Drawing with Laurie Proctor
Learn how to draw from life. Students will be drawing from a live, clothed model. They will learn about proportion, perspective and capturing the figure. The model will hold several short poses and a longer one for more detail.
$25, Ages 12 and up, Saturday, September 22, 10:00am-12:00pm

3-D Dioramas with Kim Brennan
At the beginning of class, we will go on a small treasure hunt throughout Castonguay Square to gather some materials to use in the dioramas. Then, using small box frames, wallpaper, paper cut-outs, and items found outside, students will use glue to make a 3-D diorama that will hang on the wall.
$25, Ages 6-12, Monday, September 24, 3:30-5:30pm

Picture Picnic with Kim Brennan
Students invent a visual feast by taking photographs from a bird's eye view of bugs and birds, leaves, or anything in nature. By taking photographs, the student learns elements of design as the camera lens acts like a viewfinder. The photographs will then be printed off and sent home that day.
